Programming Chinese Handhelds
Baofeng, Wouxon, Etc.
It can be as easy as 1, 2, 3 . . . or your worst nightmare!
In this section of my web I will show others how easy it can be to program these cheap Chinese dual-band handhelds - once you are armed with the knowledge of "how to do it."
NOTE: If you need to program more than a few channels, do not even attempt to do it manually. Buy yourself a GOOD programming cable and use a good [free] programming software.
I personally struggled for a long time with this, then finally spent 3 full days solving the problem. Lessons learned from my real-life nightmare wll help you avoid trouble and do it right the first time.
WARNING:
DO NOT BUY A CHEAP "NO-NAME" PROGRAMMING CABLE ON EBAY!
MANY OF THEM DON'T WORK.
Although is possible to get these to work if you manage to find the right driver, for a few dollars more you can get an original Baofeng or Wouxun USB programming cable with the associated driver software. These work. Either one works with both companies' radios.
-----------------------------------------------
THE KEY TO SUCCESS:
Understand what you want to do before your start!
In order to keep it simple, I will divide the work into 3 parts, each with its own page:
- Preparation / includes creating a channel plan of what you will program into the radio
- Software Installation and Backup of Original Data
- Programming your Radio / (in 3 Steps)
Good luck!

I am not the author of the software program that I recommend here, nor am I an expert in programming software. The software and procedure I describe here was used successfully to program several Baofeng and Wouxon Radios, but . . . USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
