Ground Connections
AT THE BASE OF THE ANTENNA:
This position was chosen to be representative of a typical portable operation, where the station is set up near the base of the antenna pole.
The ground connection was about 1 meter (3 ft.) of 6mm (1/4 in.) stranded wire connected to a galvanized steel ground stake. The ground stake was 750mm (2.5 ft.) long.
AT THE "WORST CASE" POSITION:
I connected a short 1/4 in. wire to the cold water pipe . . . about 6 or 7 ft. away.
